I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen a HUGE shift in the response to sales funnels through the 2017 year. It’s time you learned about the 2018 sales funnel path if you want to succeed with the big guys.

You know how the old sales funnel has a huge opening at the top and we are supposed to get as many prospects in that opening as we possibly can in the hopes that a few will trickle down and give us money.  We have been doing this by providing seemingly free content when in fact we are asking a lot… we are asking for access to their private email inbox.

Well, this isn’t working anymore for good reason. Here’s why and how you can get your funnels working again with even more qualified prospects than ever who are ready and willing with credit cards out and wallets open.

Have you noticed that prospects are even harder to reach? They don’t want to give their email address to anyone, even for some amazing free stuff. This makes it harder to use the old style of sales funnel.

Prospects are far more careful about what they buy and whom they buy it from than ever. They are smart and they have figured out that they don’t want to give their email to just anyone. They are even hesitant to leave comments or engage on social media because of sleazy sales folks and trolls


Well, I have a few theories that I’d like for you to consider.

#1 AMWAY (aka MLM aka Network Marketing)

That’s right… let’s go back to the days of Amway. At least those of us who are old enough to anyway. Hey, age brings wisdom! This is nothing to be ashamed of.

Back in the days of Amway people were all frenzied about the way they did sales. People they knew were getting rich… or so they made it seem.

Your friends would contact you and ask you to go to dinner with them at a wealthy friends house. Then they took you their uplines uplines upline leader who was living like a king and queen. You marveled at all they had accomplished and at how fine everything was. Then they gave you, and the other 50 people who had been invited, the schpeal about how they made their millions selling this amazing product.

Well, that only actually worked for the select few. Most people, like my parents, just lost money or made very little and maybe even lost a few friends. It’s not just Amway that did this, there are loads of other businesses that started doing this type of multi-level marketing sales.

Have you heard of Network Marketers?

Over the years this way of selling has evolved and now people are calling it “network marketing”. You’ll see them all the time in your news feed on Facebook. They are selling teeth whitening, weight loss items, patches, and other things that you won’t know anything about until you say “ME” in the comments.

They are asking vague questions like, “Who wants to earn an extra $1,000 this weekend? If so, say me in the comments.” or “What would you do with an extra $500 this weekend?” or even “I have an extra $1,000 to give away to 5 people today! Who want’s it?” They comment on your resounding “ME!” in the comments and say, “I’ll message you!” and you get all excited. Then they bombard you with a huge copy/paste “book” about how you can sell what they are selling and made the money in no time at all. It’s all very deceptive.

If you’re like me, you don’t even friend these people and if you are friends with them when they start spamming your feed you unfollow or even unfriend them.

Yep, I know… I’m a digital marketer and I’m now going to totally bash my own industry and what I’ve been doing for the last few years. I also know that my industry has to change and will change in 2018. Just watch… you can say you learned it here!

Have you found yourself thinking you’d get something (by entering your email) because it looked super interesting, looked like it could help, it was free, and “what the heck I can read/watch it later? so you gave them your email and then totally forgot about it until you unsubscribed because you were spammed to death?

Me too! This could lead to what is known as SOS (Shiney Object Syndrom) where you sign up for a bunch of free stuff while searching for an answer to a problem you’re having and you end up subscribed to about 50 spammers.

Do you even open them?

How many emails do you have that are unopened and free stuff that isn’t even downloaded? I have tons and tons! Thank heavens I didn’t print them all out, I probably saved an entire forest!

The problem is that it doesn’t end there! It keeps going, doesn’t it?

You immediately get redirected to a thank you page that is a mile long (have you scrolled to the bottom of one of these lately?) and you are being told to BUY NOW and this is the LAST TIME you’ll see this page ever and if you don’t buy this thing now for $7 you’ll basically be a complete failure.

Somewhere on that long page there is a small little line that says something like, “no thanks, I hate succeeding, I don’t want to make money, just give me the free thing so I can slink away back into failure…”

The fact is, and you know this even though you’re going to pay the $7 anyway, that this is NOT the last thing they want to sell you and that the next page will be just as long, just as hyped up, and once again you’ll be made to feel you’ll fail unless you now add another $40 to your purchase for this one more thing that will make all of your dreams come true.


You DO NOT have to have 10,000 people on your list or coming into the top of your very wide sales funnel to make 500 sales.

What if I told you that you could make 500 sales with only 600 people on your list or less?


There are only two things you’ll need to do in 2018 to have huge success and really make your prospects love you so much that they will buy whatever you offer them.

Are you ready?


Yep, that’s right. Prospects are so sick and tired of sleazy sales tactics, of being sold to over and over, and of not being told the entire story right up front.

Prospects don’t give away their emails so easily anymore or they are making up emails just for the “spammers” they get a free gift from.

The amazing clients that are out there waiting for you want to hear from YOU and they want to be told the truth right up front!

If you write an ebook about the top 10 things someone should do to be successful, there is no need to create a landing page with a follow up upsell page telling them “more” about the 10 things or giving them the template so they can do the 10 things.

Just give it to them!

Over the next 10 days or 10 weeks give them one of the tips and expound on it. Why should they use it? What results have others had? Show examples of how it works.

Then at the end of giving it to them either on Facebook Live, Video or post on LinkedIn, Twitter post with an image, however, you decide to share it, that’s when you ask for their email or for them to come join your group. But they can have nothing to fear, even if they don’t yet want to give you an email they can see the next one by following you.

Once prospects see that you are authentic, that you really know what you’re talking about and you’re not afraid of giving value, they are much more likely to trust you and to give you their email, money, and time.


Keep it going! Don’t stop with just giving a little and then making them pay for everything else.

Let’s take Brendon Buchard as an example.

Brandon gives away so much value you simply cannot stop yourself from giving him money. It’s kind of like “paying after the fact” really.

His book High Performance Habits gives you everything you need to know to become a high performer. He even gives you the downloads and templates he uses.

He shares stories of how he has helped others. The exact questions he asks and what to do when they are answered. He holds nothing back.

It’s the same with his paid courses. Once you do get to the point where you are buying into his membership he holds nothing back. Literally, without ever speaking with Brendon I feel like he is personally coaching me.

The value he gives is crazy valuable!


Why can you give your prospects everything and still make money and is anyone else doing it? YES! They are! I did it for a few months earlier this year and will be doing it more and more. Also, it’s not just working for me, there are some bigger names than myself doing this too. WATCH and see!

It’s simple.

First off, they are going to find so much value in listening to your videos or reading your blog posts that they can’t help themselves but buy when you’re ready to sell to them. They already know what you are doing is working for them and so they won’t even hesitate to buy from you.

Second, only the prospects who really want what you have to offer are going to contact you. Why have 9,500 people on your list who don’t want what you really have to sell? Why have that many people who don’t qualify to be your paying clients? The ones who truly know, like, and trust you are the only ones that really matter and the only ones you want on your list, following you on Facebook, or in your client roaster.

Third, once you tell them how to do what you’re so good at doing they will realize that they need your help. They are experts at what they do, but you are the expert at what you do. The prospects who can do it on their own wouldn’t hire you anyway, the prospects who don’t have the money yet will continue to learn from you and do it themselves until they do have the money, and the prospects who are really ready for success with your help will reach out even if you never ask them to reach out.

Fourth, as you teach those who can’t afford to work with you for free they will be earning money to be able to work with you! You’ll be changing lives without getting an email! How awesome would that feel?

Sales Funnels are changing!

The simple fact is that sales funnels for 2018 are changing FAST and you don’t have to work so hard to get prospects.

There is no need to create loads of sales pages anymore or have hundreds of thousands on your list. All you need is a social media account, a blog, and a website where they can find you. Certainly, you’ll want a way for prospects to give you their email, but from now on you’ll only have prospects on your list who truly believe in you.

  • Imagine the open rate when you have 9,500 people who love you as opposed to 9,500 people who aren’t quite sure why they signed up in the first place?
  • Imagine selling to 9,500 people, not to only 500.
  • Imagine your prospects sharing your content without you even asking!
  • Imagine prospects contacting you before you even say anything about what you are selling.

I’ve worked with hundreds of online coaches over the last few years. Many of these can boast they have tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands on their list. What they don’t tell you is that 80-90% of these aren’t even qualified to hire them or you, they have a very low open rate, a very large percentage have unsubscribed but they still show on the list because they haven’t been removed even though they cannot be sent an email legally, and/or they would never buy from the coach they just signed up for the free stuff.

There’s nothing wrong with these coaches or their lists in 2017 and before. They followed the rules to got loads of prospects in the funnel and then weeded them out to the few who would buy. That’s the old way of doing things.

But, this will no longer work. When asking someone how many people they have on their list ask what their open rate is, how many of those are actual paying clients, how many are unsubscribed or unconfirmed, how often do they email their list, and how many unsubscribes they get on a regular basis. If they don’t have a clean list with a 70% or more open rate… reconsider. These questions will tell you about the quality of their list. You may be surprised.

2018 is the year of the quality list, not the large list.

#1 Find Out What They Want

Before you find out what they want you’ll need to know WHO they are! If you don’t already know who your ideal client is then CLICK HERE to do this exercise. I cannot stress enough about why this is vital to the success of everything you do.

There are several ways to find out what your tribe wants to hear from you and January is literally the BEST time to be looking! Here are some ideas:

  • Social Media: Right now your prospects are posting all about their desires for 2018. Go through posts, pages, and groups, look at the posts/comments. You’ll see right away what they want for 2018 and learn very quickly what they want. If you can help them with it that’s a great place to start! This is how I knew that sales funnels were a huge thing on a lot of my ideal client’s lists. I thought I wouldn’t need to do more training about this, but learned very quickly that I was wrong.
  • Do a ton of free discovery calls! Get your ideal client and prospects on the phone and literally point blank ask them what they want. Those you talk to may not be interested right then in hiring you right away.  However, they will tell you what they are planning and tell you how you can help.
  • Check out what events are coming up and if your prospects are going. How? Simple! Go on FB and ASK and then look at upcoming events. You’ll be able to see who is going and who is interested.
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY… LISTEN to what your prospects are saying. When you go ask on social media or when you get them on the phone just listen. Listening and not selling to them will help you learn more than you can imagine. They WANT to tell you what they need. It makes them feel better. If you give them a few tips that they can use right away at the same time, all the better! Have them follow up with a testimonial for you.
  • Look at the list of “words” people are posting as their word for 2018. These words can be used for your sales pages, on blog posts, in the names of your services, on your website, and everywhere! Your prospects will be looking for them, thinking about them, and living them on a daily basis.

How Do You Create a Funnel?

Funnels in 2017 and before all were similar to this: Opt-in page | Thank you / Upsell Page | Thank you / Upsell Page | Thank you / Upsell Page. BUT this won’t work any longer because prospects are conditioned to know that this is what you’re doing. They know that your free thing is just the beginning and it’s possible it won’t be worth giving their email away. Here’s what to do instead:

  • Share valuable information on social media via VIDEO, blog, or vlog. I highly suggest this is done on FB LIVE which works the best in my experience. FB is promoting video above everything else, especially live video. Add it to your story so it sends a notification to your followers. Be sure to notify your prospects when you’ll be going live so they can set aside the time and get excited. Remember that if you just go live without notifying people it can take up to 4 minutes for followers to jump on live.
  • It’s important that you get your prospects to follow you (personally and your business page) and get them into a group where you can speak with them. This is true for Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter Lists. You’ll also want them to follow your boards on Pinterest. (Each platform has it’s own way of notifications so determine what your best way is to share your message.)
  • Getting emails is still important! You’ll just have to go about it in a different way. 1) Offer a download to go along with your free training 2) Ask for it when they join your group 3) Invite them to join an email only challenge, etc. Be sure they know that you value their inbox and you will only send them what they want.
  • Invite them to click reply to any of your emails and share their thoughts with you. Let them know that by being on your list they also have access to you. This is super valuable! Don’t reply to PMs, send them to the groups or invite them to join your email list to get answers.
  • Start a membership that is low cost and dump a ton of value there. Share what’s going on in the membership in your group and on social to invite new members. Invite members to invite their friends to join them for accountability. Be sure to offer monthly and annual plans. (More in the video about why)
  • Get them on the phone to share the big value and to get them to hire you or buy your services on the higher level. Once you have shown them that you really know what you’re doing they will want to hire you. They don’t have time to learn your skill, they have to be able to provide their own services. They want to hire you to do it for them!

What’ IN the Funnel?

  • Free training – Suggested done by live video when possible
  • Free group where they can interact with you and others who have worked with you
  • Share loads of value, answer questions, find out more about what they want and how you can help
  • Show them you know what you’re doing by sharing valuable information on social, on your site, and in your membership
  • Ask them to invite their friends
  • Create a course that has everything they want in it and turn it into a membership for residual income
  • Find places to speak and share your message on other people’s platforms
  • Blog posts (including video) *Make your blog posts go VIRAL using THIS tool!
  • Be a guest on podcasts, blogs, radio, FB live, and anywhere your prospects could see you
  • Create or participate in an E-zine
  • Do your own podcast
  • Find sponsorships where you can show your support of other businesses where your prospects hang out
  • Create sponsorships for your business so others can help support what you’re doing

With the economy like it is and with so many people staying home more due to COVID-19, many people are spending less and becoming penny pinchers due to lack of income. We are finding that we aren’t able to have as much fun as we wanted five years ago.

There are a lot of very talented women who could turn their skills and/or hobbies into cash or into a real business. It’s not as hard as you think and there are loads of amazing free resources to help when you’re ready.



I quit my day job in 2011 when I found the need to be home with my children due to their health.  Now 7 years later I have been providing services for and mentoring and training hundreds of women all around the world on how to start, build and grow their own businesses from home. Many have started virtual assistant businesses, health. life, or fitness coaching businesses, and other businesses as well including small online shops.


The Internet is full of amazing people who are ready and willing to help. However,  there are some that just can’t be trusted. More than half of my clients over the last 7 years have told me horror stories of being ripped off by online providers. I myself have been taken advantage of a few times when I didn’t do my research. That’s why I want to help be a resource for women who want to find the right people to work with so I started YES! Women’s Network.

There are a lot of ways you can turn hobbies and skills into cash; and it’s lots easier with trusted resources, free or low-cost training, and inspired connections.  The good news is… you’re in the right place!

Here are some ideas to get you thinking about how you could earn some extra cash:

#1 – Crafts

So many women are blessed with the gift of craftiness. Homemade creations are highly sought after personalized gifts. If you are crafty you could turn this into a surefire way to make money selling your goods. Homemade and vintage items are where many shoppers are turning for original creations. Especially if you are already selling your creations at local festivals and farmers’ markets. How many times I find items that I want to be able to buy more of and when I ask the owner if they are online and they say no. This surprises me! If you are crafty be sure to consider not only offline sales but online sales as well. Before you know it, your homemade creations, whatever they may be, could be the latest Internet craze.

#2 – Shopping

Do you like shopping? I’m not a fan of shopping and I avoid it at all costs, but my daughters love to shop. Becoming a personal shopper could save you money and make you money at the same time. There are so many busy men and women who would prefer to hire out their shopping. If you’re a great shopper you could help your clients with everything from making travel arrangements, finding hotels, buying personalized gifts, or even doing personal shopping like for groceries and household items. Personal shoppers could help their clients find clothing, pick up medicines from the pharmacy, or even just running errands. Personal shoppers could charge anywhere from $15 – $20 an hour or 10 to 15% of the total purchase according to paysale.com.  Just be sure you don’t shop for yourself while you’re shopping for your client or it would defeat the purpose.

#3 – Baking

Baking is a talent that so many busy men and women are envious of. Who doesn’t love a homemade fresh cookie or loaf of bread? Many entrepreneur friends of mine have said that having a personal chef is at the top of their bucket list. If you have this skill you may want to take advantage of it and share your talents with others while making some cash. I see on Facebook several times a week one of my friends selling her cinnamon rolls. She posts that she is going to make x number of pans, how much she wants for them, when they will be ready, and they sell out every week! The majority of people who don’t have time to bake are willing to pay for it, especially if they can pay online and pick it up on their way home. This could turn into catering small events like baby showers, weddings, family reunions, small office parties, or other gatherings. As long as you’re selling baked goods that don’t spoil (like cream pies, etc.) you don’t need a license to sell at most farmers’ markets, although some do require you meet their standards and guidelines to be accepted [source: mt.gov]. If you stick to one or two items and do them well — bread and muffins, for example — invest in a creative logo and packaging, and set up a plate of samples, your products should sell themselves.

#4 Pet Walking & Care

Do you love pets and just can’t get enough? Why not try doing dog walking and pet care? Instead of spending money to get your own why not have the freedom to care for other people’s pets? Most dog walkers charge between $10 and $18 per walk depending o the location and the number of dogs. Overnight dog sitting can be billed for even more according to Christine Rochelle in her article for aol.com.  It’s best to start your business with people who know and trust you. It’s a big responsibility to take care of someone’s pets. Once you have established a small list of clients you could ask them to recommend you to their friends and coworkers.

#5 Organizing and/or Cleaning

“I would pay someone to just come in here clean up and get me organized!” I’ve heard this many times from entrepreneurs who work 10-15-20 hours a day. Many of us spend our days sitting in front of a computer and simply don’t have time to clean out the garage, deep clean our kitchen, or take care of our yards. If this is something you enjoy doing, I can practically guarantee you that you can do this and make some pretty good money. I actually know several organizers personally who are doing pretty well. They are hired to take care of hopelessly unorganized people for a fee. The organizers I know will to and either helps their clients or actually do the work for them. Everything from cleaning out a disorganized closet to shopping and stocking their homes with things like linens, toiletries, and everyday items. Especially around the holidays when they also help with the putting up and taking down of decorations.

#6 Administrative, Writing, Editing, and others

This is how I first got started as a real estate virtual assistant! When I first needed to work from home I wanted to take the skills I had from the Corporate world to start my business. I loved working with real estate agents helping with their paperwork and I knew I could do it from anywhere as long as I had a phone and the internet. From there I grew my skills into being a speaker, digital marketer, coach, mentor, and creating this network. Now, my daughter does editing for many of my clients and I help with building online businesses. If you think about it, anything an administrative assistant does now can be done from anywhere except putting a piece of paper in a folder. An most offices are digital and filing in person isn’t needed. So, if you like writing there are businesses looking for you to help with their blogging. There are businesses looking for help with editing, marketing, data entry, editing websites, research, help with social media, graphic design, and many other administrative skills.   • Learn where you’re making progress and where you are losing money or time
  • See what is working in your business so you can do more and make more
  • Know where you can make cuts in your efforts by stopping what’s not working
  • Make changes to the way your business is run on a daily basis and save time and money
  • And many more ways you will be able to immediately save money and make more with simple small changes


Step 2 – Know Who Your Ideal Client Is

This will immediately help you see why some of what you are doing is working or why it’s not working. When you become a member of YES! Women’s Network you’ll also get free access to training if you need help determining your ideal client.

  • Know what your ideal client wants
  • Find out how your ideal client wants to receive your product
  • Learn how much your clients will pay for your services and which ones they want
  • See how you could tweak or change your branding to attract more of your ideal clients
  • Understand more about what your ideal clients expect from you before, after, and during working with you


Step 3 – Do More of What’s Working

This gets money coming in right away or more of it coming in more quickly. So many of my clients do a little of everything. But why would you waste your time on what’s not working? Once you complete your Business Analysis you’ll see where you can make more money.

  • If you aren’t doing anything yet, anything you start doing will get you started, so don’t wait! Do something and then do more of what’s working when you start
  • Create a membership to get regular money coming in using what’s working for a monthly fee (offer a monthly membership and a yearly membership)
  • Offer an individual program as well as a group program (for those who cannot afford the individual program)
  • If certain products are selling really well consider raising the price just a little and doing more promotions
  • For services that are working find ways you can break it up and make new programs to reach more prospects
  • Find four streams of income that are really working well and do more of these (services, products, memberships, affiliate marketing (Smart Passive Income), guest blogging (or podcasts, speaking, etc), become a resource, and so many other ways
  • Quit doing things that are not working or make changes to see if you can make them work


Step 4 – Start Now

There is no need to have a website or all of your social media in place before accepting clients.

  • Reach out to people you know and ask if they need what you are offering
  • Post on your own personal social what you are planning to do
  • Look in the local newspaper or online job board to see if anyone is looking for your services
  • Be ready to take payments
  • Have a plan for what you’ll do when people say yes
  • Learn how to make a pitch that works


Step 5 – Branding

It’s so important to have a consistent brand. Even if you don’t have a logo, you can start branding through imagery. Do branding FIRST. If you don’t do branding first you’ll confuse your prospects, lose them, and have to re-do a lot of what you are putting your efforts into.

  • Always use the same colors by using the exact hex code for your colors (Use this page if you wonder what colors go well together and what their numbers are http://htmlcolorcodes.com/ Or if you have an image that has a color you like go here https://imagecolorpicker.com/)
  • Always use the same fonts by giving your designer the name of your font or send them the font files
  • Create a brand style guide to show your designer that has your logo (even if it’s just the name of your business with no “logo” or icon), font names and how they are used, color codes and how they are used
  • Use similar photos or images when posting on social so they look similar
  • Be sure that you’re using styles that will help your followers will recognize that what they see is you
  • When using social media be sure that the images on social match your website, print marketing, banners, etc


Step 6 – Social Media, Website or Other Online

You don’t have to have a full website to get clients. Here are some ideas for an online way for prospects to find you:

  • Social media – be sure there is a way for them to contact you even if it’s through PM messenger
  • Landing page – where they can give you their email or contact info, get your contact info or contact you through a scheduler through a link
  • One page website – that shows what you offer, has your contact information, where they can give you their info, or where they can click to contact, pay, or schedule
  • Create a way to take money – Using something like Paypal, Stripe, or Square or other options so that you can take payments when prospects are ready to buy
  • Online schedulers are a great way to let prospects schedule times to chat with you
  • Business Cards – use the back to give them something they want to keep
  • Flyers at local businesses or libraries with your contact info or where they can find out more
  • Free online classes via Zoom or other webinar platforms or even on Facebook Live
  • Free offline classes also are a great way to reach your prospects and show your knowledge
  • When you’re ready for a full website be sure you are not determining who you work with by price. Find someone who will do a great job within the time frame you need. Have them show you what they have done and speak with past clients to be sure they will do a great job. Check out their testimonials and look at the people who gave them.

Step 7 – Systems & Processes

These will save you time and money faster than just about anything you do. Also, these will make it possible for you to hire help and they will know what needs to be done.

  • Start now! No matter where you are in your business do this every day
  • Keep track of what you are doing and write down the steps
  • Make videos to show your virtual assistants or other outsourced help how to do tasks
  • Create systems and processes manual in Google Drive or on your project management system
  • Use a project management system to track who is doing what and when
  • Communicate with those who are helping you
  • Train the people who work for you well using step by step explanations so they can jump right in and do work for you
  • Keep track of the platforms and resources you use for each of your tasks and list them on the steps
  • Use lastpass.com or logmein.com for password sharing

Step 8 – THE GOLD of Doubling Income #1 Tips

Do these things regularly to double income by the end of the year.

  • Facebook Live!
    • While shopping
    • While at the gym
    • While planning means
    • While cleaning out fridge
  • Get the store or gym or wherever you are doing the FB Lives to sponsor your FB Live to say where you are and post a link
  • Share your knowledge freely (See video for why and how)
  • Be authentic – Be yourself and show them you care about them
  • Be sincere in all you do – Prospects are tired of fake coaches, they want someone who is real and really cares

Give them what they ask for and don’t charge them for the education of it. (This works for businesses who sell their services only.) Show them you know what you’re talking about and what you can do for them.

Let them Love You!

Show your clients how to do what you’re doing, they will LOVE you and know that you are the real deal. The prospects who can afford your services will hire you without questioning it. They already know that you will be able to help them because they have seen you do it.

They don’t have time to learn what you are an expert at doing already. They need to be spending time working with their clients and hire you to help with the rest.

I know these things work because I’ve seen it work for my clients and it works for me for my own business as well.

Prospects are tired of seeing sleazy sales. They are tired of giving away their email and being disappointed with what they get, so they are more hesitant than ever. Show them you are the real thing and they will hire you.

Having an intern work for you and with you will help you build your business by leaps and bounds! How do you hire someone though when you find yourself in that spot where you can’t afford to hire someone but you can’t afford not to hire someone? Hire an Intern! Or do a Trade!

Hire someone who you know who is looking to learn a skill you have and who needs a way to learn it. I love working with Interns! They get to learn skills working with me that they wouldn’t have an opportunity to learn anywhere else. I show them how to use online tools, how to manage a business, digital marketing, customer service, and other skills.

Once I train them, they can do the work for me in trade for a testimonial or even get hired on in a paid position with me. Mostly I love sending them clients of their own, through my contacts, so they can continue to build their business.

As long as the Intern learns something or benefits in some way and you do as well, then the Internship is successful.

TIP: Be sure to work out the details of what the work entails and what the benefits are for both parties before starting and you’ll be golden!
